It’s one thing to see a female operating as a veterinarian technician, a kindergarten teacher, construction worker, administrative executive, real estate agent or any number of occupations an individual can have in America. It’s another thing entirely to see that kindergarten teacher straight flat-back her opponents at a roller derby bout. Oh, and did we mention she does it for charity?
Such are the wonderful women of the Lake Tahoe Derby Dames – Lake Tahoe’s first official roller derby league (and may we also add: the baddest roller derby league this side of the equator).
The sport of roller derby has been a cult favorite for decades, and those who compete within (or without) its rules and regulations truly love it for life. The Derby Dames are bringing a fresh new attraction to South Lake Tahoe, as they are currently training for the Bijou Bash, a charity derby event being held this September 12th at Bijou Park in South Lake Tahoe.
Coming up in the immediate future, the Dames will take on the Chico NorCal Roller Girls at the Bijou Community Park this August 22nd starting at 6pm (gates open at 5pm). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Whiskey Dick’s, Turn 3, or any Tahoe Derby Dame.
You may also purchase tickets online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
Trust us, you won’t want to miss the halftime show.
