Kayaking
Even by just listening to the name “South Lake Tahoe”, you would know that there is a marvelous opportunity for some excellent water sports in the area. And there is – you can get some really good sea kayaking (or open water kayaking, if you would prefer to be politically correct) out of the nearby beautiful Lake Tahoe, and you can enjoy some of the best kayak tour experiences you can hope to have when you go kayaking in South Lake Tahoe. After all, the waters in the area are not only breathtaking in its natural magnificence, but it's also full of life that inspires you to respect it.
One of the premiere kayak adventure companies to be found in Tahoe would be Kayak Tahoe, which has two major branches so far – one of which is on the Pier of the Timber Cove Marina in South Lake Tahoe. From their base area, kayak lovers (whether they are new to it or not) can paddle out to see some of the more attractive views presented by Lake Tahoe via the guided tours – a stop by the only island on the lake is included in the trip. What's more, the Kayak Tahoe tours are not only exciting, but informative as well, with the guides giving them interesting factoids about the lake, its history, and its ecosystem. When they're not hosting guided tours, they also sell and rent out some of the best new and secondhand kayaks in the area; they are adamant that an individual is matched up to the right kind of kayak. Kayak Tahoe also does demos every once in a while for the kayaking aficionados interested in new kayaking advancements, and has a kayak school which offers a very safe and fun way to learn and improve one's kayaking. Obviously, they take kayaking in South Lake Tahoe very seriously.
There are, of course, other companies and groups that promote the activity of kayaking in South Lake Tahoe, such as Tahoe Sports. While not offering tours and lessons to make kayaking in South Lake Tahoe fun and adventurous, Tahoe Sports is still (arguably) the best place to rent your kayak. Granted, it is under the assumption that you already know how to paddle when you rent a kayak from Tahoe sports, but the experienced thrill-seekers appreciate the quality of the kayaks rented out here. Not for beginners, though. It's still best that new paddlers go and find companies and groups that offer kayak lessons before renting their kayak and going kayaking in South Lake Tahoe.
But if you prefer to not go straight to those kayaking companies – that is, if you'd prefer not to contact them directly – but still want the kayaking experience, then there's no need to worry. There are several hotels and resorts located at the waterfront or close to the waterfront, and they often not only rent out kayaks, but offer tours and lessons as well (care of the water sports companies). All in all, you can always find ways to go kayaking in South Lake Tahoe, and you'll be sure to enjoy it.
