While there are no river rafting adventures to be had in South Lake itself, the greater Tahoe area offers a great number of options, ranging from the casual relaxing float, to high adrenaline Class III rapids. They are a short drive from the South Lake area and are proven to be a great compliment to your South Lake Tahoe experience.
The upper section of the Truckee river (between Tahoe City and River Ranch) offers the area’s most popular 4.5 miles of mellow floating. This area has a gentle current, lots of sandy beaches and picnic areas around just about every bend. It is accessible to almost all kinds of boats and personal floatation accessories including rafts, kayaks and inner tubes. While this can be fun for the whole family, it isn’t for non swimmers or young children.
