So you're in South Lake Tahoe, and you've already done some paddling in a kayak and you already rode the whitewater on a raft. But your kids are still antsy, and you yourself want something outdoorsy to do. If it's winter, you probably can bond with your kids by doing a bit of skiing. In the warmer season, however, you can do something else, something that's considerably more fun – you can go fishing! Now, you're probably wondering how this could be done, since you can't do much fishing in Lake Tahoe. Fishing is probably not allowed in Lake Tahoe anyway, considering the fact that the few fish species there are protected – the lake is more popular for boat-based activities. Well, that's what the Tahoe Trout Farm is for: it's for you to get get some fishing experience in South Lake Tahoe.
The Tahoe Trout Farm, found in 1023 Blue Lake Avenue in South Lake Tahoe is a great place to get your kids into fishing. Because the number of fish is pretty much abundant and regulated here, you can catch as many fish as you like, and you don't even need to have a license (as is the case with other fishing expeditions). You don't have to worry about the ecosystem either – the fish bred at the Tahoe Trout Farm are not among protected species (they're TROUT), and they do not actually interact with the rest of the aquatic life of the area. Thus, a lot of fishing at the Tahoe Trout Farm does little to no harm to the Lake Tahoe environment.
If you're worried about not having your tackle with you, then there's no need to worry. You can just walk into the Tahoe Trout Farm and you're handed tackle and bait – there is no need for you to pay at all. All you're required to pay for is the fish that you catch; and like what has been said before, you can catch as much or as little as you want. The point of the Tahoe Trout Farm is for you to have an exceptional fishing experience, although when you DO catch a fish or two (which is very likely to happen, considering the number of fish at the farm), you'll be sure to have something excellent for lunch or dinner. The fish from the Tahoe Trout Farm are absolutely delicious, and they cost three to ten US dollars, depending on their size. You'll be happy to know that the folks at the Trout Farm are more than happy to clean, pack and ice the fish you had caught for no extra charge.
People have been coming to the Tahoe Trout Farm for years now, and those people who were brought there as kids now bring their own kids. It's a good family place, and probably the best fishing in South Lake Tahoe (if not in the entire Tahoe area). Although you may have to brace yourself – the personnel at the farm won't be killing those fish for you after you caught them – it is nevertheless a good way to spend the day with the kids. The Tahoe Trout Farm is open from ten in the morning to seven in the evening, Memorial Day to Labor Day.
