Mary Cook was graciously given her big break into the freelance writing world with SouthLakeTahoe.com. Before her passion with writing transpired, she ski instructed at Heavenly for two winter seasons, worked two harvest stints in a Napa winery, acquired a B.S.
in Biology from Cornell, and dabbled with medical school for a six month period.
Originally from a small town in Upstate New York lacking much in the form of entertainment, Mary inevitably became enamored with recreation. Throughout high school, she participated in long-distance running events, ultimately finishing her first marathon in college.
At Cornell, she met her first love, ice-hockey, which she continues to play today in South Lake Tahoe’s Ice Hockey League.
Shortly after her move to California, she discovered her second love: cycling. She is pleased to report her completion of this year’s Death Ride, a 129-mile road ride over 5 mountain passes outside of Markleeville, CA.
Mary hopes her writing career will one day funnel her towards a position with Bicycling Magazine or Outside Magazine.
Mary is 25 years old and currently resides in South Lake Tahoe, CA.
